Text Box: “Yes We Can!” said President Elect Barack Obama before an electrifying crowd of over 125, 000 in Chicago, Illinois’ Grant Park. On Tuesday, November 4, 2008 and the weeks before, people of all races, religions, and ages from across the United States of America made it clear that they were ready for the CHANGE that Barrack Obama so passionately spoke of during his campaign for President. During his victory speech, President Elect Obama, told the world of a journey many of us have heard of through others or actually experienced. A journey garnished with hope, struggle, denial and death. “It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled. Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been just a collection of individuals or a collection of red states and blue states. We are the United States of America,” said Obama.
With a land slide victory, statistics show that voter registration numbers were up 7.3 percent from the last presidential election. Democrats, in particular, saw their registration numbers increase by 12.2 percent, while Republicans saw their ranks grow by only 1.7 percent, according to a recent analysis by The Associated Press. The long history of racism in the U.S. precluded for the election of an African-American President. The meltdown on Wall Street and the gravest capitalist crisis in 75 years beat back the bigotry that could have stopped Obama’s victory.
A record-breaking turnout on the part of African-American and Latino voters, and a tidal wave of young voters, cemented the multinational electoral coalition that made history. “Clearly the Hand of God was in this electoral process, and Barack Obama is now President Elect of the United States of America.  Now the People of God must do our part to ensure that the Kingdom of God becomes a reality on earth, and this Kingdom includes ALL of God's Children" said Reverend McDonald.
